I know the South Downs well and am delighted that they have now been given National Park status.
They are a stimulating challenge to draw or paint; the shapes are very subtle, and the views extremely wide. Most of my work is done from photographs taken while walking. I prefer days with blustery winds and moving clouds, and am particularly inspired by the curves of the steep northern slopes and the white chalk tracks..

The South Downs fall into the sea with enormous drama at Seaford Head, the Seven Sisters and Beachy Head, and in these places there is no shortage of wonderful images at any time of year and whatever the weather.
