Wanting inspiration for an image, I painted the canvas black including the edges, and then played around with acrylic inks dropped into dilute acrylic medium. This resulted in a watery, circular pattern and I imagined a fish curving and gliding through a dark sea. I wanted its silvery scales to show up and brought a ray of light to shine through from the surface.
